Our Specialty: Myopia Control
Myopia, also called nearsightedness, is a common vision condition where distant objects look blurry, while close up vision stays clear. This happens when the eye grows a little too long or the front of the eye is too curved, causing light to focus in the wrong place.
At Specialty Eyecare, we focus on more than just updating your glasses prescription. Our Myopia Control Program is designed to slow down the progression of myopia and in some cases help keep it from getting worse over time.
Once myopia starts, especially in children and teens, it often continues to increase as they grow. Higher levels of myopia are linked to a greater risk of eye problems later in life, including glaucoma, retinal detachment, cataracts, and damage to central vision.
By starting myopia control early, we aim to protect your child’s vision now and reduce the risk of serious eye issues in the future. Our team will guide you through personalized treatment options and support you every step of the way.
How to slow down Myopia
Myopia control is dedicated to slowing down or even stopping the progression of myopia in children and teens. Below shows the options and their effect on slowing myopic progression.
Learn about Myopia
Myopia, commonly known as nearsightedness, is a vision condition where close objects appear clear, but distant objects become blurry. This happens when the eye is longer than normal, or the cornea is too curved, causing light to focus in front of the retina instead of directly on it. Dr. Bashir and Dr. Nguyen, our certified optometrists at Specialty Eyecare, have treated countless cases of progressive myopia and offer personalized care to ensure the best possible vision correction for each patient. Myopia can be managed effectively with glasses, contact lenses, or more advanced treatments.
Myopia develops when the shape of the eye prevents light from focusing directly on the retina. It is often inherited, so children with parents who are nearsighted are more likely to develop myopia as well. Environmental factors, such as spending long periods doing close-up activities like reading or using digital screens, can also contribute to the progression of myopia. We emphasize early diagnosis and treatment, especially, to manage myopia and prevent it from worsening as childen grow.
We are one of the few offices in our area that offers all forms of managing myopia progression. We offer a range of treatments tailored to slow down the progression of myopia, including prescription eye drops, FDA approved MiSight, Orthokeratology and even the new Stellar lenses. With our extensive experience in treating myopia, we ensure that each treatment is customized to meet the individual needs of every patient, providing the best care for their visual health.
